Isla Vista Food Co-op "Where Does Your Food Come From?" Internship


Year Long Commitment 
10-15 hours per week 
Internship Overview: 
This intern will work to connect local shoppers with the suppliers of their food. The position is ideal for someone who is passionate about sustainable and ethical food production, and about informed grocery shopping. Through maintaining up to date shelf labels and store signage, interviewing local farmers, and organizing tours to farms and wineries, the intern will gain intimate knowledge about local food production. Additional benefits include leadership experience, organizational skills, and mentorship. 
Duties: 
Maintain Shelf Tags 
o Non-GMO verified shelf tags, EWG Skin Deep Database rating shelf tags, Staff-picks tags, and local program shelf tags/fliers 
Update Labels for Bulk Items 
o Replace existing labels with updated country of origin, supplier info, etc. 
Profile Local Farmers 
o Interview each of the local farmers about their business 
o Photograph the farmer/ farm 
o Create both a digital and printed version of a profile for each farmer 
Organize Tours 
o Facilitate monthly tours to local farms, farmer’s markets and wineries 
Weekly Meetings 
o Meet once a week with your supervisor to discuss your progress and set deadlines 

Qualifications: 
 Interest in local food production 
 Artistic ability (photography and graphics) 
 Attention to detail 
 Organization skills 
 Leadership skills 
 Ability to set and stick to deadlines 
 Communication skills 

Compensation: 
In exchange for your time you will receive an employee discount on all foods purchased at the coop, in addition to valuable work experience, references, and course credit in your major if applicable.

Isla Vista Food Co-op Administrative/Marketing Internship



Year Long Commitment 
10 hours per week 
Internship Overview: 
This intern will assist with the maintenance of co-op marketing strategies, employee materials, and paperwork. The position is ideal for someone who is not only an advocate of sustainable and ethical food distribution, but who also has an interest in business procedures and administration. Through their work with a company that has almost $3,000,000 in annual sales, 4,000 active members, and a consumer base spanning all of Santa Barbara County, this intern will have a hands-on opportunity to learn the essentials of business administration with an intimacy unimaginable in a larger corporation. 
Duties: 
Maintaining Co+ Coupons 
o Putting up coupons around the store 
o Updating a laminated booklet every 2 months 
o Counting Coupons 
o Completing Coupon Redemption Worksheet 
o Sorting and mailing coupons 
Preparing for New Employees 
o Assembling folders 
o Assembling jackets 
o Making new join packets 
Maintaining Signage 
o Cutting and laminating sale signs 
o Displaying fliers including “why join,” “shopping on a budget,” etc. 
Maintaining Integrated Social Media 
o Setting and recording goals in regard to engagement rates 
o Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Hootsuite 
o Uploading and managing photos and posts 
Paperwork 
o Making special order forms 
o Organizing register paperwork 
Assisting With Finances 
o Folding checks 
o Preparing envelopes for vendors 
Weekly meetings 
o Meet once a week with your supervisor to discuss tasks for the week to come 

Qualifications: 
 Interest in administration and marketing 
 Strong organizational skills 
 Attention to detail 
 Ability to set and stick to deadlines
